Laura has been an avid enthusiast of competition Obedience and Rally for over 35 years. She has had a great deal of success in both rings with her dogs, earning numerous OTCHs, UDXs, and national rankings.

 

Laura's personal accomplishments include:

 

- Titles on 7 Shelties, a Beagle, and a Weimaraner

- 3 OTCH Shelties

- The first OTCH Beagle

- 2009 National Obedience Dog of the Year (all breeds)

- 6,812 OTCH points and 501 UDX legs on 5 dogs

- 214 High In Trial and 267 High Combined awards

- First place in Novice 2014 AKC Obedience Classic

- Multiple Top 8 finishes at AKC National Obedience Invitationals

- Rally RAE on a rescue Sheltie that she started training at 8 years old

 

After working as a programmer for 22 years, mostly in the automobile industry, in 2007 Laura made a career change to open Radiant Competitive Obedience (RCO). She continually works to refine and improve her training and teaching methods.

 

From 2013 to 2016 she spent a total of 9 weeks learning from world renowned animal trainer and operant conditioning expert Bob Bailey to learn how to further maximize her effectiveness with positive reinforcement and minimize the need for traditional corrections. At RCO Laura is dedicated to sharing her love of dog training with others as she helps them to prepare for Obedience & Rally Trials.

 

Laura's students have earned titles from beginner through advanced levels, including both Obedience Trial Championships and Rally Master. She is extremely proud of each and every one of her students and considers the relationship forged through training between a human and a beloved canine companion to be the biggest accomplishment of all.
